SILCHAR POLYTECHNIC
Silchar Polytechnic was established in the year 1960 by the Govt. of Assam. Sri K. Goldsmith was the founder Principal of this institute. The institute started with Civil Engineering Diploma course & now it is imparting 3-years Diploma course in 4-disciplines viz; Civil, Mechanical, Electrical and Electronics & Telecommunication Engineering. This institute is the only Govt. level Diploma Institute in Barak valley situated in southern part of Assam, imparting its excellence as a pace setter for Diploma Engineering education running with good conditioned departmental laboratories, computer laboratories and placement cell. It is an elite institute with good percentage of placement.
In 2010 Silchar Polytechnic celebrated its Golden Jubilee with great fervour and enthusiasm. There are several on -going projects/schemes under Central Govt. fund which are being undertaken by the institute. Some of which are MODROB scheme for laboratories up-gradation, AICTE-NEQIP scheme for improving teaching-learning methodology along with infrastructure development and community college scheme for community skill development project etc.
The institute is located at a distant of 6 Km from Silchar and is situated in Meherpur, Hailakandi Road & well connected to Silchar city. Within a few kilometers in same road other premier institutions like Silchar Medical College & Hospital (SMC&H), National Institute of Technology (NIT ), and Assam University ( a Central University )are located.
